Ambassador Ejike Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has attributed the gale of defection of governors, national and state assembly members to the good performance of President Bola Tinubu.
Eze, who was the candidate of the APC in Enugu North Senatorial DIstrict in 2023 general elections, said this in Nsukka on Saturday while addressing newsmen over Gov Peter Mbah who joined APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on October 14.
He said Tinubu's good performance had made the APC a 'beautiful bride' to many politicians who are happy on the policies and programmes of the administration.
"For some time now, everyday one will hear that one politician or the other has dumped his/her party to join the ruling party led by President Tinubu.
"This is as a result of the present administration's people-oriented and transformative leadership in the country.
"President Tinubu has performed wonderfully well and every Nigerian should vote him in 2027 general elections," he said.
Eze a retired Career Diplomat and former Assistant to ex-President Obasanjo on Protocols described Governor Mbah’s recent defection as a welcome development.
He described the development as a step in the right direction that would connect Enugu State and the entire South-East straight to 'Aso Rock'.
Eze said numerous achievements of Mbah since 2023 he assumed office had made him one of the best performing governors in the country.
"I am happy that Enugu State is now an APC State. Gov Mbah joined APC on October 14 with all the state executive members, commissioners, all local government council chairmen and who is who in Enugu State.
"This tsunami, has made PDP that has controlled Enugu State since 1999 to "go extinct" in the state," he said.
On whether he would contest again the senatorial seat in 2027, he said it's the decision of APC in Enugu State led by Gov Mbah who is now the leader of the party in the state.
"If the party calls me to be its candidate in Enugu North Senatorial District in 2027 general elections, I have no option," he said.
On who replaces Chief Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology from Enugu State who resigned over alleged certificate forgery, he said that would be the decision of Mr President in consultation with Mbah.
Eze urged all residents of Enugu State and entire the South East to give maximum support to President Tinubu since the adminstration had done much to the zone and would continue to do more.
