Cardinal Robert from United States is new Catholic Pope

The new Roman Catholic Pontiff is Cardinal Robert Prevost.

He was elected by the 133 cardinals who gathered earlier for the conclave.

Habemus Papam! The traditional Latin phrase—“We have a Pope!”—rang out from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica today, as the Vatican formally announced the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

The white smoke that rose earlier from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel confirmed the successful conclusion of the conclave, where 133 Cardinal electors selected the American-born cleric to succeed Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
