Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has raised concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorists’ activities in Marte town.
He said if proactive measures were not taken, there was the risk of losing the entire local government to the terrorists.
Zulum urged the Federal Government to deploy effective strategies to prevent Marte town from falling to Boko Haram insurgents.
During a Sunday press briefing, Governor Zulum emphasized that his visit to Marte aimed to foster community cooperation, resilience, and support for security agencies.
Recalling the town's recent ordeal, Zulum noted, "Marte was resettled about four years ago, but unfortunately, it was ransacked and displaced again over the last three days."
He expressed concern that the displacement of approximately 20,000 people to Dikwa poses a risk, as prolonged stay in camps could make younger individuals vulnerable to insurgent recruitment.
The Governor commended the Nigerian Army and volunteers for their support in re-establishing security in Marte, allowing the community to resettle.
He, however, stressed the importance of sustaining this progress, stating, "If we cannot maintain this one town, we risk losing the entire Local Government Area to insurgents."
Zulum called for collaborative efforts between the Federal Government, the Nigerian Army, and state authorities to ensure Marte's stability, reiterating his commitment to supporting security agencies in achieving lasting peace in Borno State.
