The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that a man and his three daughters are being held over a case of kidnapping.
It made the clarification after the man’s wife, Mrs. Chioma Chikadibia, alleged unlawful detention of her husband, Mr Sunday Chikadibia and their three daughters by the Command.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the man and his daughters were in lawful custody.
Chinaka revealed that they were arrested as suspects and accessories to an investigation of an alleged kidnapping and murder case.
“Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects were duly arraigned in Court and are presently remanded at the Correctional Centre by the order of a competent court of jurisdiction," she stated.
The Abia Police Command described the alarm raised by the wife, Mrs Chioma Chikadibia about her husband and their three daughters' whereabouts as untrue and misleading.
She added that, "The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, advises members of the public to desist from shielding criminal suspects, as doing so makes them accomplices to crime, an act which constitutes a criminal offence under Nigerian law.”
