Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, known as the most dangerous hired assassin in Lagos in recent years.

Akinwande was captured during a carefully coordinated tactical operation code-named ‘Silence, Speed and Surprise’.

The operation was carried out by the Command’s Tactical Squad at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Friday, by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

He disclosed that the suspect, aged 44, is notorious for unleashing terror in Mushin and its environs.

It was gathered that he had evaded arrest for years until he was finally tracked to Ogun State.

“Arrest of most wanted vicious and notorious hired killer and head of killers' gang in the history of Lagos State in recent time, Wasiu Akinwade a.k.a. Olori Eso, and recovery of nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, dagger, walkie-talkies and international passports,” the statement partly read.

Akinwande is believed to have led multiple armed gangs involved in over a decade of deadly crimes, including murder, cult-related violence, armed robbery, and kidnappings.

“This serial killer suspect is the most wanted in Lagos history in recent times.

“His arrest is a major success in our sustained efforts to combat violent crimes that threaten the safety of residents in Mushin and several other areas of Lagos,” Hundeyin said.

The police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and evidence from Akinwande’s residence.

The suspect reportedly confessed that he and his gang used the items for their criminal operations.

Among the seized items were: Two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, fifty-seven live cartridges, seventy rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, twenty-seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56 round, one dagger, three walkie-talkies, nine international passports belonging to different individuals.

As of the time of filing this report, at least four families have stepped forward to identify Akinwande as the man responsible for the murder of their loved ones.
