A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso is on his way to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
NATIONAL POST learnt that this is the major reason behind the sudden resignation of the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Ganduje attributed his move to health grounds, but sources privy to the development said it had to do with Kwankwaso’s expected movement to the APC.
According to multiple sources, President Bola Tinubu is considering Kwankwaso as his running mate in 2027, a development that has not augured well with Ganduje, a sworn enemy of the former.
Kwankwaso and Kan governor, Abba Yusuf are said to be perfecting plans to decamp from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP to the ruling APC.
According to a source, Kwankwaso is expected to join APC "any moment from now, except he changes his mind again but as of today, the arrangement has been made for that to happen".
"It looks like they are sworn enemies, the defection of Kwankwaso is very important to the APC, especially as 2027 is concerned, but Ganduje has vowed that he won't welcome him into the party so he has to step aside", a source told Daily Post.
The source further stated that President Tinubu may not work with Kashim Shettima in 2027, as he is considered of less electoral value.
