Two PDP govs may soon defect to APC - Saraki

By

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has hinted that more governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may be on their way to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

NATIONAL POST reports that Saraki said this amid the recent controversy over the right occupier of the PDP National Secretary position.

Within the week, the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum had asked Senator Samuel Anyanwu to resume office at the party’ national secretariat.

However, he was quickly countered by at least 11 members of the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, as well as the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

Saraki was one of those who backed Damagum in his announcement that Anyanwu should resume office.

Appearing on Arise TV, he expressed sadness at the sudden turn of events, warning that it may spiral into more high-profile defections from the party.

Saraki, who said he was part of the delegation to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to seek a direction over the imbroglio, said the decision on Anyanwu was the only available option.

He is now warning that failure to abide by that decision could spell doom for the party.

According to him, “PDP would likely see one or two more defections, and we should prepare ourselves for that, there is a possibility.

“We haven’t seen the worst of the defections for PDP. We would probably see maybe one or two governors who will defect, and we might see some senators who will defect.

“For some of us, this happening early in PDP is an advantage.

“This is not just about resolving today’s issues. It’s about building for the future.

“The next convention must not be business as usual. We must bring in new, younger faces who represent the future of this party.

“If PDP fails, Nigeria edges closer to a one-party state. And that would be a disaster for democracy.”
