2027: South must retain presidency - Amaechi

By

Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi has declared that the presidency must remain in Southern Nigeria in 2027.

Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, is a key member of the opposition coalition.

He has already resigned as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday night, Amaechi, however, argued that leadership should be determined by competence and character, not regional entitlement.

He said the next elections will be a battle between “ordinary Nigerians and the entrenched political elite.”

According to Amaechi, “Nigeria belongs to all of us. We cannot sustain a democracy where one region dominates while others are locked out.

"The South has capable leaders. It’s time to restore balance and deliver real results.

“This election is no longer about party loyalty. It is Nigerians versus the political elite. If you want change, real change, then it’s time to rise.

"The South is ready to lead. We’re building a platform that gives every Nigerian a voice, and hope.”

Meanwhile, he also during the said interview disclosed that he led the battle against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election in 2015 because it was against the spirit of zoning.

Amaechi said power was supposed to return to the North, but that Jonathan was bent on breaching the zoning arrangement.
