The emerging row between the United States of America and Nigeria took another dimension on Thursday.
This is as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed that the United States, US, is mounting pressure on African countries to accept Venezuelan deportees.
Tuggar disclosed that some of the Venezuelan deportees are prisoners in the US.
He disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television's Politics Today.
The Minister also disclosed that Nigeria may not be able to accept these prisoners.
He said: "The issue of tariffs may not necessarily have to do with us participating in BRICS.
"You have to bear in mind that the US is mounting considerable pressure on African countries to accept Venezuelans to be deported from the US, some straight out of prisons.
"It will be difficult for Nigeria to accept Venezuelan prisoners into Nigeria."
NATIONAL POST recalls that the United States earlier announced what it called reciprocal visa policy.
In a revised visa policy, the United States announced that Nigerians with non-immigrant visas will henceforth only enjoy single-entry visas with a three-month validity period.
This was announced on Tuesday as part of the United States Department of State reciprocal non-immigrant visa policy.
