A former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff has stated that Peter Obi will emerge the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2027 general elections.
Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, is a member of the opposition coalition seeking to defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
However, he is yet to join the adopted African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Obi said he is still a member of the Labour Party.
Days ago, key leaders of the PDP also confirmed that discussions were on top gear to get Obi back to the party he left in 2022.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sheriff stated that, based on information available to him, Peter Obi is likely to secure the PDP presidential ticket.
The former governor said, “Atiku has been the vice president of Nigeria. So for him, (it is) president or nothing. Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party. His ambition is to become President.
“Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi would go back to the PDP and run as a presidential candidate under the PDP.
“So that leaves Vice President Atiku and (Rotimi) Amaechi. So tell me, which states do they control?”
