Single mothers cannot raise boys into proper men - Jim Iyke

Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has stirred controversy after he claimed that single mothers cannot raise boys into “proper men.”

According to him, for a child to be raised properly, there should be involvement of a male figure.

The actor made the remarks in a recent interview with Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana.

According to him, women are naturally nurturing but lack the discipline and resilience needed to raise boys into men.

“A woman can’t raise a man. You’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly,” Iyke said, stressing the need for male presence in a boy’s upbringing.

“You need a male influence. Go get your brother, your father, or any man that you trust,” he added.

He argued that boys require firm discipline from men to avoid becoming weak, adding that maternal care alone is insufficient.

To illustrate his point, Iyke narrated an incident involving his four-year-old son during a family holiday in France. He explained that after being bullied by other children on a beach, his son ran to him for help. However, Iyke refused to intervene, insisting the boy must face the situation on his own.

According to him, the child eventually confronted his peers, fought them off, and reclaimed his football. Iyke described the moment as a proud one, noting it reinforced his belief in the importance of male guidance.

“I’m not here to help you. I’m here to guide and protect you. The rest, you figure out by yourself. That’s what makes tough kids. That’s my idea of leadership,” he said.
