Nigerian Government has vowed to reciprocate the latest visa policy by the United States against its citizens.
NATIONAL POST recalls that the United States government, on Monday, announced that Nigerians seeking visas must now provide details of all social media usernames they have used in the past five years.
It warned that failure to comply could result in visa denial.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the statement read.
The Federal Government has now vowed that it would come with equal measure.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria would readily impose the same requirements on American visa applicants.
“We are aware of the development. I think it’s part of the new measures they informed us about before implementation.
“On things of this nature, the best we can do is to carry out reciprocal action. Some people from the US might want to apply for a visa, and we will adopt the same measures,” he said.
Ebienfa noted that the government plans to hold an inter-agency meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to determine the most comprehensive response to the new US visa regulations.
He added: “The government will have an inclusive meeting that will involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and also our National Intelligence Agency, NIA.
“So, the stakeholders that are involved will have a meeting and agree on our best way to respond to it holistically.”
