2027: 'APC doomed' - PDP Govs vow

By

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum, on Saturday declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, faces inevitable rejection by Nigerians in 2027.

The governors said the ruling party is doomed to record a poor showing in the presidential election owing to the bad handling of the economy among other issues.

PDP Governors were in Zamfara State for their meeting.

Some of the governors at the meeting were Seyi Makinde; the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke; Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, the host Dauda Lawal, and Enugu Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai.

Meanwhile, Adeleke who was at the meeting, already said he would support President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However, the Forum in its communiqué said that they were committed to rescuing Nigerians from what they described as the divisive governance style of the APC, whose policies have continued to cause more hardship and misery on the people.

According to them, in spite of the defections witnessed in the PDP, the party is still appealing to Nigerians.

They said they discussed several issues during the meeting, including the state of the nation and the efforts to reposition the PDP and make adequate preparations for its forthcoming national convention.

The forum stated further that the recent by-election in some states was over-militarised and characterised by widespread irregularities, vote buying and violence.

“The forum commends the resilience of PDP leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections, stressing that such distractions cannot diminish the party’s strong grassroots appeal or the growing public yearning for the return of affordable living and relative security experienced under PDP-led administrations,” the communique reads.

It is not certain how the PDP will wrestle power from the APC owing to the cracks within the party.

Apart from Adeleke, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has also declared that he would support Tinubu's reelection bid.

Woke has also vowed challenge the PDP National Convention scheduled for November in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Also, the only governor on the party's platform from the South-East, Governor Peter Mbah is being wooed by the APC.
