A former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has urged President Bola Tinubu to fill the vacant ambassadorial positions.
NATIONAL POST reports that ever since Tinubu assumed office two years ago, the government has been operating without ambassadors.
All the ambassadors were recalled and ever since, no replacements have been announced.
Months ago, a list circulated, containing purported names pencilled down for the positions.
However, the presidency later described the document as fake.
Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has now called on President Tinubu to appoint new ambassadors.
Kalu said ambassadors would help Nigeria to reap the benefit of Tinubu's diplomatic and economic engagements with other countries.
In a video on his Facebook page, the lawmaker said Tinubu's trips abroad are good for Nigeria and Africa's economic development.
He said: "The traveling of Tinubu is very good for our country and its economic development.
"He can't just be president of Abuja. Tinubu should deploy more diplomacy.
"Our dear President Bola Tinubu has done well on his international engagements for the benefit of Nigeria.
"It’s also time the President appoints ambassadors so that the country can reap the full benefits of the President's diplomatic and economic engagements in several countries."
