Residents of Enugu State have hit the streets over the detention of Mr Bright Ngene, a member of the Labour Party.
Ngene was recently declared winner of the Enugu South Urban rerun election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He has been in prison for months after he was jailed by a Magistrate court in the state.
Prior to his declaration as winner of the election, there were three previous attempts to hold the rerun election but it ended in a fracas.
The fourth attempt also witnessed alternation from members of the People Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, led by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Hon. Uche Nnaji.
However, days after, INEC now declared Ngene as the winner of the election.
His wife also addressed the media and linked his incarceration to political tussle.
Protesters, who are seeking his release, are describing him as a prisoner of conscience.
This comes amid the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, conference holding in Enugu, the Coal city capital.
