‘Int'l passport price now higher than minimum wage’ - Peter Obi knocks Nigerian Govt

Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has knocked the Federal Government of Nigeria over the increment in International Passport fee.

NATIONAL POST recalls that the government had on Thursday announced a new price regime for the different categories of Nigerian passport.

According to the government, a 32-page booklet now goes for N100,000, while 64 pages goes for N200,000.

Reacting, Obi said the obsession of this administration with putting a burden on the populace is becoming legendary.

The former Anambra state governor, in a post on his official X handle on Thursday, said in a country where the new minimum wage is only N70,000, the cost of a single passport now exceeds a worker’s monthly salary.

According to him, instead of making life easier, the government keeps shifting the burden onto ordinary Nigerians.

"It is alarming that the price of the international passport is higher than what workers earn in a month," he wrote.
