Simon Ekpa jailed in Finland

By

Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa has been sentenced by a District Court in Finland.

Ekpa, known as the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Government in Exile, was jailed for six years in prison for terrorism-related crimes.

This marked the end of trial following his arrest on 21 November 2024 by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into allegations of inciting terrorism and promoting violence through social media, activity that was believed to have contributed to unrest in southeastern Nigeria.

NATIONAL POST recalls that Ekpa was earlier remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court.

The court has now determined that the charge was based on “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent”, alleged offenses dating from August 2021 to November 2024.

Ekpa’s assets were also frozen at some point as part of the investigations.

In his absence, his Deputy, Ngozi Orabueze has been acting.

The Nigerian government also said at some point it was interested in repatriating Ekpa back to Nigeria.
