A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Nasir El-Rufai has countered the single term commitment made by Mr Peter Obi.
NATIONAL POST recalls that Obi, in a submission he made to the opposition coalition, pledged to do a single term, then hand over to a Northerner in 2031.
The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party said this was to respect the existing zoning arrangement between the North and the South.
However, while appearing on Channels TV, El-Rufai, a former Kaduna governor, told Obi to stop making such a commitment because four years is not enough to make any meaningful changes in Nigeria.
He said: "On the question of people saying they will come out and do one term, I don't think that anyone believes them and I don't think that it's right.
"You should not constitutionally give up what is yours and frankly, as someone who has been governor for eight years, Amaechi and Peter Obi have both been governors.
"They know the time it takes to make meaningful changes in governance, four years is not enough.
"I want to appeal to everyone to stop making this commitment of ‘I will do four years’ because nobody believes you."
During the same interview, El-Rufai also said he was the only one qualified to call Tinubu government evil.
He equally asserted that Tinubu would lose re-election in 2027, and that the best he could come was a distant third.
