Igbo Imam backs Gov Bago on submission of sermons for approval

By

First Igbo Imam of Abuja National Mosque, Haroun Eze, has backed Governor Umar Bago of Niger State on submission of sermons to the government for vetting.

NATIONAL POST recalls that Bago has stirred controversy after he ordered that all preachers must henceforth submit their sermons for vetting.

Reacting, Eze said regulating preaching in the state was a welcome development.

Speaking on 'Prime Time', a programme on Arise Television on Monday, the Igbo Imam declared that: "The Niger state government is interested in what is coming from religious leaders to the populace in addressing the social, economic, and security issues we have.

"Religious leadership should be seen to work hand in hand in terms of promoting good governance.

"What the Imam, Pastor or the Reverend is doing is dishing out information and materials to shape the mind and character of the citizenry and that should crystallize into better citizens, governance, relationship and having peace within one another.”
