Nigerian Newspapers: Top 10 highlights you need to know Thursday morning

Good Morning! Here are today’s top highlights from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday summoned the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas. The ex-Sole Administrator and the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede were seen at the State House in Abuja. This comes amid demand for the probe of Ibas after his six months’ administration.

2. The Naira appreciated massively against the United States dollar at the parallel foreign exchange market. It was gathered that the Nigerian currency, Naira, strengthened significantly to N1,490 per dollar on Wednesday, up from N1,520 on Tuesday.

3. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has described as untrue claims by the lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that she was treated as a slave at the red chamber and domestic servant. Akpabio said Natasha was instead given special privileges from her very first day in the Senate.

4. A group known as Igbo Elders Forum has staged a peaceful protest, agitating for the  release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. The protest at the Abia Government House, on Wednesday, comes ahead of the Friday's ruling on Kanu's no case submission.

5. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command has announced the arrest of 78 persons for drug abuse and street thuggery. The raid was carried out in a coordinated exercise, involving the Nigeria Police Force.

6. Nigerian billionaire businessman, Oskar Ibru passed on, on Wednesday, after a brief illness. Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, died at the age of 67, according to a statement released by the family on Wednesday.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has postponed the State Congress for the purpose of electing a new State Executive Committee of the party in Plateau and Cross River States. The postponement, according to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, was approved by the party's National Working Committee, NWC.

8. The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised the alarm over the practice of adding AZODIE to palm oil to enhance its attractiveness by marketers in the country. It said some traders were adding AZODIE to palm oil at night to make it appear redder, which poses health risks to consumers. 

9. At least 11,000 people lost their lives and at least 420 communities were destroyed in Plateau State over the last two decades of violence. This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Plateau State Fact-Finding Committee on Incessant Attacks and Killings, Major General Nicholas Rogers (rtd),. The disclosure was made in the committee’s report submitted last week to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House, Jos.

10. A 23-year-old man, identified as Oshen, has lost his life while trying to separate a fight. It was gathered that he was hacked to death by a Junior Secondary School student in Ugboro Secondary School in Bekwara Local Government Area of Cross River State. The incident happened in Ugboro at the close of school on Tuesday, when Ogbeche and another student whose name was given as Nicholas were engaged in a fight and the deceased known as Oshen went to separate them.
