1. Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has demanded for the immediate transfer of the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. He made the demand to President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, describing the conduct of the CP as embarrassing.
2. Irate youths in Turan of Benue State, on Wednesday, set ablaze the residence and office of the Mue Ter Ichongo, His Royal Highness Simon Baver. The incident was a retaliation for Tuesday’s deadly incident, which led to the shooting of a youth by soldiers.
3. President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that his administration has disbursed N330 billion to eight million households. Tinubu, who made the disclosure during this Independence Anniversary broadcast, said the initiative is under the social investment programme to support poor households and vulnerable Nigerians.
4. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Jibrin Okutepa has advised former president Goodluck Jonathan not to contest the 2027 presidential election. According to him, Jonathan was not eligible to contest having been sworn in two times.
5. A former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has dismissed claims that he was sentenced to death by hanging. A report which is being shared on social media platforms, said Ikpeazu was convicted for allegedly stealing N1 trillion during his tenure. However, Ikpeazu dismissed the claims as laughable and mischievous, insisting that the entire story was fabricated to mislead the public.
6. Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has cried out over his deteriorating health. Kanu, in a letter to the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, said if urgent measures were not taken he may die in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.
7. A Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has barred the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, from going ahead with all admission processes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The order was issued by Justice A.T. Segun-Bello on Tuesday.
8. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has called off its strike. This was following a resolution facilitated by the Federal Government between the oil and gas workers and the Dangote Group. During a press briefing on Wednesday, PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo announced that the Union's National Executive Council held an emergency meeting and decided to pause the strike.
9. Kano State Shura Committee has suspended popular cleric, Sheikh Lawal Shuaib Abubakar, also known as Sheikh Triumph, from teaching and preaching until an investigation into allegations of blasphemy is completed. The committee’s secretary, Shehu Wada Sagagi, told journalists after a review meeting that they had gone through both audio and video clips of the cleric before making the decision.
10. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has relieved his commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect. The Governor made the announcement during a valedictory session with his cabinet, held on Wednesday at Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
