A former governor of Enugu State, Barr Sullivan Chime has justified Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
NATIONAL POST recalls that Chime had upon completion of his second tenure in office, pronounced the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, dead.
He then crossed over to the APC.
In a historic move in the state on Tuesday, Governor Mbah and his immediate predecessor, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have now joined Chime in the APC, ending PDP’s years of control in Enugu.
Among other things, Mbah said his decision was in the overall interest of the state and that he wants the voice of Enugu and indeed to be heard in Abuja.
There have been criticisms from some residents of the state who are not comfortable with the governor’s defection.
Those opposed to the move see it as a betrayal of the trust of the people.
But in apparent defence of the governor, Chime in a post on his social media page, justified political realignment.
Alongside a picture of Governor displaying his APC membership card, Chime wrote: “Political realignment is not betrayal; it is the courage to follow vision when old paths can no longer carry the dream.”
