Yobe Electoral Commission Chairman passes on

Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Muhammad Mamman, has died after a brief illness.

He passed away at the Yobe State Teaching Hospital in Damaturu where he was receiving treatment. 

Confirming the news, one of his sons, Amir Muhammad, revealed he was buried today, at the Central Mosque, Emir of Fika’s Palace, Potiskum.

“He died at the Yobe State Teaching Hospital, Damaturu. He leaves behind three wives, 33 children, and many grandchildren” Amir said.

Dr. Mamman was a medical doctor and once served as the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Hospital Management Board during the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Geidam.

He was appointed Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) twice by Governor Mai Mala Buni and was serving his second term until his death.

Before his passing, Dr. Mamman also held the traditional title of Shamakin Fika in the Fika Emirate.

His death has been described as a big loss to Yobe State, especially among those who knew him as a dedicated public servant and community leader.
