The Lagos State police command has arraigned a 44-year-old civil servant, Charles Ogunyinka, over allegations of defiling his three-year-old daughter.
The suspect was docked on Friday before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Ogunyinka, who resides in the Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos, is facing a charge of unlawful and indecent touching of a minor.
According to the Prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, the alleged offence occurred at the defendant’s residence.
Ademigbuji informed the court that the incident took place after the defendant’s wife had briefly left the child in his care.
Upon her return, she reportedly found the child crying.
Further inquiry led the child to gesture toward her private part while identifying her father, the prosecutor said.
The alleged act is said to be in violation of Section 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Ogunyinka, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge.
Chief Magistrate O. O. Kushanu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in the same amount, and adjourned the case until September 11, 2025, for mention.
NATIONAL POST reports that cases of daughters defiling their underaged girls has been on the increase in the country.
Most of the cases occur when the girls areare left under the care of either their direct fathers or stepfathers.
