‘NYSC official told us we’ll get married to women beaters’ - Female corper makes fresh revelations

By

The female corper brutalized by the operatives of the Agunechemba in Anambra State, Edema Elohor Jennifer has made fresh revelations on how an official of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, pressured them to drop the case.

Jennifer spoke to BBC News Igbo, alongside her colleagues, narrating their horrifying ordeal.

This comes amid claims by the Anambra State government that the victims did not want to continue the case.

However, Jennifer and her colleagues have now countered that narration.

According to her: “They dragged me naked into their vehicle, calling me all sorts of names that I cannot even mention, both in their dialect and English,” she said amid tears.

“I was pleading with them that I was already naked, even if you want to take me out, can I change what I was wearing…they refused, forced me into their vehicle, doing all sorts of nonsense.

“When we got to their office, they sat us on wet floor, even with my nakedness, because it rained that day. My co-corper had to pull his clothes and gave me, for me to cover my body.

“I messaged my LGI, (NYSC Local Government Inspector) and told him that ‘see what happened o…see what we went through, there was no response.

"Not until I sent him the video, he didn’t brother, it was because he saw a video, that was why he decided to go, and what came out of his mouth is that we assume that what has happened has happened, that some of us are going to get married to men that beat women, that was what he said to us.

“So, we should take it as a lesson.”

Jennifer’s father also disclosed that the LGI was desperate to cover up the matter.

“When he called, I was weeping, I told him that we want justice; he said he would follow up the case.

“Then the next day when he called and said the case was finished, I said, just like that? I said it cannot happen,” the traumatized father said.

Meanwhile, NATIONAL POST reported earlier that one of the victims told BBC News Igbo that they were only given N10,000 as transport fare and not any restitution as claimed by the government.

He also disclosed that the LGI deleted the video from his phone.
