The report also noted that from December 2023 to February 2024, at least 1,336 people were killed, with 533 being women, 263 children, and 540 men. Apart from those killed, the agency said over 29,554 people were displaced, out of which 13,093 were children, while 16,461 were women.
It added that in April 2025 alone, 51 people in some communities of the Bassa local government, which was another indication of security lapses despite concerted efforts by security operatives to curtail the spate of attacks.
The body further stated that the recent attack in Chakfem community of Mangu, where 15 people were killed, has also increased the humanitarian crisis in the state and called on the Federal and state governments to step up their security apparatus to prevent the recurring attacks.
The body stated that apart from slaughtering everyone they came across, the gunmen also razed homes and other properties. The attack in Mangu forced over 2000 people to flee their homes.
The human rights agency also described the Mangu attack as yet another indication of how vulnerable rural communities of Plateau are prone to incessant attacks that always entirely destroy the affected communities.
