Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Honourable Bernard Udemezue.
The lawmaker was slammed with a three-month suspension without pay over alleged unparliamentary conduct.
He was warned that he should not be seen within the Assembly for the period of the suspension.
The decision followed the consideration of a report presented on Tuesday by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges chaired by the Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme.
NATIONAL POST recalls that the lawmaker caused a scene last weekend when he clashed with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security details at an event in his community.
He had insisted on coming to exchange pleasantries with his traditional ruler despite the fact that the governor was already seated.
The lawmaker tried to force his way into the VIP stand but was resisted by the security agents.
He has been a major critic of the Soludo administration.
Meanwhile, prior to the last weekend incident, the lawmaker made some posts on social media which drew the anger of the House.
A letter of invitation was then sent to him through Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Chairman, House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
It read, “On behalf of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, I respectfully invite you to appear before the Committee at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex, Awka, on Thursday 21 August, 2025 by 10:00 am.
“Your presence is required to discuss matters pertinent to the Committee's mandate. We value your cooperation and look forward to your contributions during this engagement.”
