Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has charged the Nigerian youths to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is currently carrying out a continuous voter registration exercise.
However, the recent update it provided was not cheering with the entire South-East states trailing behind.
Only the South-West, especially Osun State, has put up a massive figure, according to the commission.
Obi has now charged the youths to take advantage of the exercise, stressing that God would not come down to elect leaders for the country.
Obi made this call in a post via his official X handle on Sunday, saying that young Nigerians have the responsibility of shaping the country’s future.
He emphasized that the voter’s card is the most powerful weapon against bad leadership.
“Yesterday, I joined thousands of young people at the National Youth Rally marking the 40th Anniversary of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria, CYON, hosted by the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka.
“I reminded our youths that the task of nation-building rests on their shoulders. To build a better Nigeria, we must choose leaders with competence, capacity, compassion, and character.
“I urge every young Nigerian, especially those just turning 18, to register and vote. Your voter’s card is your most powerful weapon against bad leadership.
“Do not sell your vote—for once you do, you have also sold your healthcare, your education, and your future. God has blessed Nigeria, but He will not descend to elect leaders for us. That responsibility is ours," he wrote.
The politician further explained that the task of nation-building rests on the shoulders of the youths
He also said that to build a better Nigeria, the citizens must choose leaders with competence, capacity, compassion, and character.
