A member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, opposition coalition, Dele Momodu, has expressed doubt over former President Goodluck Jonathan running for president in 2027.
Momodu said despite the meeting between Jonathan and Obi, the former president may not run in 2027.
Jonathan and Obi had a closed-door meeting yesterday in Abuja. Disclosing this on X, Obi had described the parley as fruitful.
However, Momodu said those determined to kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won't allow Jonathan to run for presidency in 2027.
In an interview on Channels Television, the veteran journalist said the meeting between Jonathan and Obi should not be seen as a sign of an alliance.
He said, “Those who are saying former President Jonathan will run on the platform of PDP, I doubt it, because those who are determined to kill PDP are still very much entrenched.
“Those who say he and former Governor Peter Obi are meeting— politicians meet all the time.
“The other day, when we saw the picture of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu, people speculated that he was going to dump NNPP and join APC.
“People speculate a lot. This is not a time to speculate; this is a time to focus and strategise.
“So all this noise about ‘he will go there’, let people go. In a democracy, if you cannot agree on a consensus, then let there be a primary. Let them go to the poll, and whoever wins, so be it.”
