2027: 'South-East no longer Obidient' - Umahi gives reasons

By

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, on Saturday, claimed that the people of the South-East are no longer Obidient.

Supporters of Peter Obi, who shook the political climate in the 2023 election, are known as the Obidients.

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Obi is still regarded as a key factor among the opposition politicians.

Many still believe that he is the only person that could muster the enough support base to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

But Umahi thinks otherwise, as he declared that the Southeast and Ebonyi State in particular will vote for Tinubu in 2027.

He stated that there was no space for the Peter Obi-led Obidient Movement in the state.

The Minister, who spoke during the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam festival in Onicha area of Ebonyi State, said: "We are not obedient people. We have been so marginalized that we are no longer obedient. No, we are not.

“But it is the man that has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu, let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and saying this state belongs to us. There is no obedient person in Ebonyi State."

He also described the outcome of the last presidential election as a mistake.

"We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake but we have come to be wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us," he added.

On the clamour for Igbo presidency, Umahi said it was not yet the turn of Ndigbo to produce the president of Nigeria.

He declared that when such time comes, he is the most qualified.

"It's not our turn, when it's our turn for the presidency, who is more qualified than this me?

"When the time comes I will tell you what the president has used me to do in the Southeast and let Igbos be the judge," the former Ebonyi governor stated.
