Residents of Nsukka in Enugu State, have been thrown into mourning, following the brutal murder of a popular doctor from the area, Dr Ifeanyi Ogbu.
The victim, a renowned veterinary doctor, hailed from Iheagu, Nru, in the University town of Nsukka.
Our correspondent reports that the news started circulating late Friday.
Although details of his killing are still sketchy, it was gathered that armed men stormed his residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, and abducted him, alongside his three children.
According to a source, “only the wife who is nursing a baby was spared.
“They took Dr Ogbu and his children, but shot him dead and left his body by the roadside. Nobody knows what transpired.
‘We don’t know whether it is a case of assassination or kidnapping.”
Also, a Facebook user, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who also shared news of the sad incident wrote: “Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja was found dead.
“The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene.”
Another friend of the doctor, in a post titled, ‘A Great Loss’, bemoaned the level of insecurity in the country, describing it as unbearable.
The female colleague wrote: “Nigeria just happened to my age-long friend, Ifeanyi.
“This heartbreaking incident has left the entire veterinary community in shock and mourning.
“Dr. Ogbu, who happened to be the immediate past chairman (FCT CHAPTER) was not only a dedicated veterinarian but also a loving father and a valued member of our profession.
“His untimely death is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to affect families and communities in Nigeria.”
The police are yet to issue any statement on the reported incident as of the time of filing this report.
However, the murder of the doctor is generating outrage on social media, with many describing his death as one too many.
Many described him as very vibrant and dedicated to the course of humanity.
