Nigerian Army arrest 16 officers for various offences

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the arrest of sixteen military officers over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau.

According to the statement, the arrests followed a routine internal operation aimed at reinforcing discipline and professionalism across the Armed Forces.

Preliminary investigations, Gusau said, revealed that some of the officers had longstanding grievances linked to career stagnation, including repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service-related issues.

He added that several of the officers were already under investigation for previous offences, noting that their conduct was found to be inconsistent with the values of the military.

“All indicted officers will face appropriate disciplinary measures under the military justice system once investigations are concluded,” the statement noted.

The Defence Headquarters said the move was part of ongoing efforts to preserve professionalism and ensure accountability within the ranks.

It reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would not tolerate any behaviour that undermines discipline or threatens its integrity under democratic governance.
