1. Gunmen have murdered a renowned veterinary doctor, Dr Ifeanyi Ogbu. He was killed after he was abducted from his house in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, by suspected kidnappers. As of the time of this report, the bandits are with his three children.
2. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has declared the first degree certificate of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Uche Nnaji as fake. This is following the declaration of his first degree certificate as fake. According to the Vice Chancellor of UNN, the supposed Bachelor of Science degree certificate presented by the minister was not issued by the university as he (Nnaji) did not complete his studies at the institution and was never awarded a degree.
3. Nigeria Police says it is yet to be served the court order which barred the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun from enforcing the tinted glass permit. This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
4. The Nigerian Military says sixteen military officers have been arrested over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations. This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau. Some of the officers had longstanding grievances linked to career stagnation, including repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service-related issues.
5. Five persons were confirmed dead after a truck belonging to Dangote Group rammed into a tricycle killing all the occupants. It was gathered that the truck reportedly suffered brake failure. The unfortunate incident occurred Friday night at the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Ogun State.
6. Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu has disclosed that he never forced his wife to convert to Islam. Tinubu stated this while speaking at the funeral service for the mother of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, in Jos, Plateau State. There have been allegations of attacks targeted at Christians in Nigeria, but the current administration insists it is untrue.
7. An attempt to assassinate the monarch of Igoba community in Akure North Local Council Area of Ondo State, Oba John Adinlewa, has failed. It was reported that no fewer than 10 suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the alleged crime.
8. Two female journalists have been reportedly arrested by security agents over a video report posted on social media handles showing a face-off involving a cleric and some security operatives during the funeral service of the mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda at the COCIN Headquarters. They are said to be members of staff of Jay FM in Jos, Plateau State. There is no report yet on their whereabouts.
9. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied linking his predecessor, late Muhammadu Buhari to Boko Haram. He said his recent comments on the role of Buhari in the Boko Haram crisis was misrepresented. The former president made the clarification in a statement issued by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, after he earlier said Boko Haram chose Buhari to negotiate on their behalf.
10. Zamfara State has recorded 179 deaths from 12,052 suspected cases of cholera, representing a 1.4 percent fatality rate, lower than the national average of 3.3 percent. This was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada during a meeting with the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, PHEOC, led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun.
