Two travellers are currently investigation by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate II of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, located on Okotie Eboh Street, Ikoyi.

This is following their arrest by officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, for allegedly failing to declare large sums of foreign currency in their possession.

The suspects, identified as Mamud Nasidi and Yahaya Nasidi, were arrested during a routine security check on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos. They were reportedly found with $6,180 and £53,415 in cash, which they did not disclose as required by law.

According to the EFCC, the duo had just arrived in Nigeria from Dubai, en route Addis Ababa, and were scheduled to connect a local flight to Abuja when they were intercepted.

Following their arrest, the suspects were initially handed over to the Department of State Services, DSS, for preliminary interrogation before being transferred to the EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Three mobile phones were recovered from the suspects.

The EFCC said the suspects and all recovered exhibits were officially received by CSE Margaret Lamai on behalf of the Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate II, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Ahmed Ghali.
