1. Major tragedy was averted on Saturday as the aircraft conveying the Super Eagles of Nigeria departed South Africa for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was forced to make an emergency landing in Angola. It was learnt that upon noticing a crack in one of the windows, the pilot made an emergency landing in Angola.

2. The Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Mr Peter Obi owns over 200 of the shops demolished in Lagos State at the Trade Fair Complex. This was revealed by Senator Victor Umeh during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme. 

3. Speculations have heightened that Governor Alex Otti of Abia State could be on his way to the All Progressives Congress, APC. This is following his visit to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State ahead of Mbah’s defection to the broom party. The visit was announced by the Enugu governor on his social media page.

4. A 35-year-old carpenter, identified as Ahmed Toheed has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing his 64-year-old grandmother, Mrs Mulikat Sanni. The incident occurred at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo state.

5. Panic gripped residents of the Bayan Gari area in Bauchi metropolis late Friday night following a deadly confrontation between police patrol officers and soldiers attached to Operation Safe Haven, Jos, which resulted in the death of a police constable. The clash was confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil. He said the violent encounter occurred around 10:35 p.m. 

6. The 2023 Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has decried the level of hardship in Nigeria, lamenting that it had driven many Nigerians into mental stress. Obi made the observation in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday to observe World Mental Health Day. The World Health Organisation, WHO, estimated that about 40 million Nigerians are living with mental health conditions, with grossly fewer doctors to attend to mental health.

7. Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has said he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He gave this assurance on Saturday in Abuja after the inaugural meeting of the publicity and communications sub-committee for the party’s forthcoming national convention. This comes ahead of the defection of Enugu governor, Barr Peter Mbah to the APC.

8. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has issued an order to Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions. It ordered them to refund customers for failed Automated Teller Machine, ATM, transactions within 48 hours. This is contained in a draft guideline released by the apex bank on Saturday, signed by the Director of Payments System Policy Department, Musa I. Jimoh. According to the order, if technical glitches prevent immediate reversal, the bank is required to manually refund the customer within 24 hours.

9. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has come under criticism after he made a joke allegedly referencing the 2006 ADC Airlines plane crash that killed 96 people, including the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Maccido. While mocking opposition parties, Akpabio said: “I am in total sympathy with what’s going on. The PDP is on the ground, their umbrella is turned. The Labour Party is scattered... ADC airline, ADC crashed, sorry ADC crashed even before it took off,” Akpabio said, laughing.

10. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, known as cooking gas across Nigeria, has continued to fluctuate in some locations across the country. This is amid the uncertainty surrounding the supply of the product. In Abuja and its environs, 1 kilogramme of cooking gas has been adjusted to N1,400, up from the N1,200 sold last week.
