2027: PDP working to bring Obi, Jonathan into race - Senator Moro

By

Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has confirmed that talks are ongoing to bring Mr Peter Obi and former President, Goodluck Jonathan to join the race for the presidency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

There has been rumour that Jonathan has agreed to run for the presidency in 2027 under the PDP platform.

But Jonathan is yet to either disown, or deny the claims.

Also, some PDP chieftains had claimed that they were making efforts to bring Obi into the party.

In what appears to be affirming these claims, Moro while responding to questions in an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, said talks were ongoing over a possible return of both Obi and Jonathan to the PDP.

“In the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi, ‘Hey, come back home, this is what we are likely to do, and if you come, you stand a chance of being the candidate’,” Moro said on the show.

Responding to a question about the possibility of former President Jonathan returning to PDP, Moro said, "Well, some persons are talking to the former president, to come and run, and it's a possibility.

"But [there are] those who fear constitutionalism, based on how many times he has been sworn into office, and those who are warning it might be dangerous, but there's nothing dangerous there.

"You recall that in 2015 when former President Jonathan wanted to run, there were cries all over the case about the constitutionality of his candidature, but eventually it was settled even by the court, that he was qualified to run, and that is why he ran."

NATIONAL POST reports that Obi, who said he is still a member of the Labour Party, has made a presentation to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, promising to do a single term in office.

ADC is the party adopted by the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
