Emeritus Bishop Okobo of Nsukka Catholic Diocese is dead

Emeritus Bishop of Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Ogbonnia Okobo has passed on.

NATIONAL POST learnt that the Emeritus Bishop died today, August 29, 2025. 

He was aged 89.

Okobo is the pioneer Bishop of the Diocese created in 1991.

In a message sent to the Diocesan priests, signed by Rev. Fr. Amuluche Greg Nnamani, he confirmed the Emeritus Bishop's death.

He wrote, "Msgr/Frs., It is with deep pain and sorrow, yet with a total submission to the will of the Almighty God and a firm hope in the resurrection of the dead, that I announce the sad news of the passing onto glory of our Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Francis Emmanuel Ogbonnia Okobo.

"He died this morning, 29th August 2025 at the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu. Further information over this sad event will be communicated to you later. May his soul rest in peace. Amen."

Tributes are pouring in for the late clergyman across all platforms.
