Nigeria's Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun has reportedly suffered a stroke.
Although a source told SahaReporters earlier on Sunday that the minister was flown abroad, the presidency said the minister is recuperating in Nigeria.
Edun’s condition is said to be “very serious, adding that he is receiving intensive medical attention.
The source further stated that the minister would be unable to get to work again and that President Bola Tinubu is already shopping for his capable replacement.
The presidency has now confirmed the development.
It said in a statement on Sunday that the minister is currently indisposed.
Edun was to lead Nigeria's delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in Washington DC, which opens on Monday, October 13.
However, presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga said Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria will now lead that delegation.
According to him, "Cardoso, as the alternate Governor, replaces the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, who is indisposed.
"The Nigerian team will also comprise the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anete."
Edun has been a key member of the Tinubu cabinet, working hard towards reviving the nation's economy.
Nigerian Government said there was no plan to replace the minister.
