Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Diri, a second term governor, has been in a running battle with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike over the control of the party’s structure in Bayelsa State.
The governor has now left the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr Daniel Alabrah, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor confirmed the defection.
He said the Governor joined the APC alongside 19 members of the State House of Assembly.
"Gov. Douye Diri resigns from PDP alongside 19 members of the House of Assembly," he wrote on his Facebook Page.
Lere Olayinka, media aide to Wike also broke the news of the governor’s defection on his social media pages.
He wrote: “Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri defects to APC.”
Diri's defection comes barely 24 hours after Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State also dumped the umbrella party.
